Antisocial?
by Jason
So tonight I was supposed to go out with some people I know. Not that I’m really into the whole “going to a bar for a few drinks” thing–I don’t really like beer or bars. So, presented with an opportunity, I found an excuse not to go: unclear communication about where we were meeting combined with everybody failing to respond to SMS and voice calls. At least, failing to respond until half an hour later when I was more than halfway home.
Perhaps I’m antisocial. Well, I’m pretty sure I am. But the bigger problem is not that I don’t like to hang out with people. I like hanging out with people that I like hanging out with just fine. But a) I don’t like meeting new people, and b) I don’t like being out past midnight in smoke-filled bars drinking overpriced soda or alcoholic beverages that don’t taste good at all.
I guess the point is that it’s not that I don’t like people, but that I don’t like what people like.
